He ‘builded his house at Rathfernan’: a talk on the life and career of Adam Loftus (d. 1605)

12 August 2023 @ 2.30pm - 3.30pm

Join us for a talk on the life and career of Adam Loftus (d.1605) who in 1583  commissioned Rathfarnham Castle as his private residence.

Covering his origins in Yorkshire, his arrival in Ireland in 1560 and rise to some of the most important positions in the Kingdom (he would ultimately become the Archbishop of Armagh, the Lord Chancellor of Ireland and the first Provost of Trinity College), all set against the backdrop of the Reformation in Ireland and the political, religious and ethnic conflict that characterised the so-called ‘Elizabethan Re-Conquest’.

Admission is free. No booking required.
